Papers

We have a hinterland – quite a sizeable one in fact. One that goes back to when we were living and operating in the south of Essex. One that involved the production of a fair number of papers for a variety of purposes. Some have been lost with no digital record of their existence. The rest of them are here. This is an archive because we’ve reached the point where it’s highly unlikely we’ll ever produce another paper unless other people make a serious offer to get on board and help out with the distribution. I’ve broken the paper listings down into sections as follows:

Keynsham

These are the three papers we produced and distributed after moving down to Keynsham in 2022:

Essex

The Heckler / The Stirrer

These are papers we produced for house to house distribution in selected areas. We also left bundles at sympathetic venues. On top of this, they were handed out at community events and also, back in the day when we still attended them, anarchist bookfairs. Here they are:

Alternative Estuary

These papers were produced for distribution at events such as community fairs, vegan fairs and markets and also, in a number of venues in Southend-on-Sea who were sympathetic to what we were trying to achieve. Here they are:

One off papers

Back in the late 2010s, we’d been working with Basildon & Southend Housing Action on a number of practical actions on the Vange Hill Estate in Basildon. At one point, we thought it might be a good idea to produce a paper to act as a focus for this and garner more support for grassroots action across the estate. Here it is:

The ‘lockdown’ papers

Back in 2020 and 2021 when the Covid ‘crisis’ lockdowns were happening, there were a number of protests against what was being done to us – this included opposition to the vaccine mandates. Rather than go along with my now former anarchist comrades in dismissing them as ‘conspiracy theorists’ and ‘far right’, I thought it would be useful to investigate and try to engage with what at the time, seemed like a potentially interesting social and political phenomena. The vehicle I chose to do this with was a paper specifically produced for each protest. Here they are:

The Independent Working Class Association (IWCA)

Between 2003 and 2009, I was involved with the IWCA. In 2007 and 2008, I stood as a candidate in the local council elections in the Stanford East & Corringham Town ward. This involved a heck of a lot of door knocking and also, door to door delivery of papers and election manifestos. Here they are:
